Professor Funmi Arewa delivered the 2024 Jaszi Lecture. She spoke about her research group’s investigation into the ways the copyright system historically failed to protect the interests of Black creators, and what that has meant for their artistic legacies. She presented her group’s findings through a discussion of Lorraine Hansberry, acclaimed author of A Raisin in the Sun.
We are a live-client law firm within American University, Washington College of Law. Each year, 230 students participate in our program, helping real clients (low income and under-represented people and organizations in the D.C. area) with a wide array of real legal problems. Students work under the supervision of 9 tenured and 2 tenure-track faculty members, 2 long-term contract Professors of the Practice of Law, and 10 practitioners-in-residence. We'd like to share the diverse experiences of our students, faculty, and staff as we teach and learn together.
